Piyamas is 12 years old. Piyamas is the daughter of Master Thawatchai Khunsin and Ms. Amporn Natcha. She is the oldest child with one younger sibling. She currently lives with her grandmother because both her parents passed away when she was about 2 years old.
Her parents used to work as laborers on farms and earned about 200 baht per day. However, her father died in an accident about 10 years ago. After her father passed away, her mother suffered a heart attack and passed away about 1 year later. Therefore, Piyamas and her sister have been living with her grandmother ever since.
Piyamas’ family has known that she has had heart disease since birth. The doctor informed her that she has a heart condition with a hole in the wall separating the heart’s chambers, which requires surgery. They have been receiving treatment and monitoring her condition with the doctor all along, but have not yet undergone surgery to correct the abnormality because they have to wait until she is the right age and weight for surgery. Every time, her father would bring her for continuous checkups, but after her father passed away, no one brought her for treatment, so she missed treatment and monitoring.
Until early 2015, Piyamas started having chest pains and having difficulty breathing. The aunt who was taking care of her grandmother took care of her to see the doctor to treat her symptoms. In the end, she underwent surgery at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital on February 24, 2015, with assistance from the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation. After the surgery, Piyamas’ condition gradually improved. She became less tired and ate more. She will be sent back to Nakhon Sawan Hospital for further treatment and follow-up. After the surgery, Piyamas’ life will probably be better. She will be able to run and play and live like a normal child.
