Nong Panida or Nong Oung-ing is the daughter of Mom Mayurin Boonmuangsaen and Dad Surachet Khetsamut. She lives with her parents in Sakon Nakhon Province. Her mother told her that she was born on October 9, 2013. At birth, she seemed healthy, weighing 2,800 grams. She was in the hospital for 7 days before being able to go home. During that time, no one told her that she had a congenital heart disease. However, when her mother brought her home, she began to notice that Nong Oung-ing breathed heavily, and when she cried, her fingernails and toenails were darker than usual. So, she tried putting her ear to her chest to listen to her heartbeat. She felt that her heart was beating very hard, which made her feel uneasy, so she took her back to the doctor again. When the doctor checked her blood, did an X-ray, and did an Echo, the results showed that Nong Oung-ing had a ventricular septal defect, and had a narrowed and swollen heart wall. The doctor thought that she had a complicated congenital heart disease. The doctor explained the details of her symptoms and the initial treatment methods to her parents. The treatment method is surgery, but the surgery is very expensive and must be sent to Bangkok for surgery because there are specialists who are experts in pediatric heart surgery, which has a chance of being cured. Both parents are very worried because the cost of the surgery is very high. They are afraid that they will be able to find money to operate on Nong because the income of the parents, who are government teachers, is not much. It will not be enough to treat Nong. Sakon Nakhon Hospital contacted Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation to send Nong Oong-ing to receive surgery at Rajavithi Hospital. Nong Oong-ing had to stay in the hospital to prepare for the surgery since May 14th and had the surgery on May 18th, 2021. Nong Oong-ing was in the ICU for 12 days before being moved to the heart surgery ward to recover. Now Nong’s condition has improved, so she has returned home to continue her treatment. Her mother is very happy that Nong will be able to be as comfortable as any other normal child.
