Natthanicha Fuengfung or Nong August, 2 years old, suffers from congenital heart disease, including a hole in the septum between the lower chambers of the heart (Perimembranous VSD). Nong August is the son of Master Songkran Fuengfung and his mother Natharika Khunthep. Nong August was diagnosed with congenital heart disease when he was 19 days old when he went for a checkup. The doctor at Suphan Buri Hospital informed him that his heart was beating abnormally, so he was sent for further treatment at Ratchaburi Hospital. At first, the doctor said to wait and see how the symptoms went, in case the hole might close on its own when he grew up. His parents took him for regular checkups and he looked normal, healthy, and strong like any other child. Until the doctor at Ratchaburi Hospital informed him that the hole in his heart wall would not close on its own and that his heart valve was about to leak, so he was sent to the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health. (Children’s Hospital) Since she was a little over a year old, we have been taking her for follow-up check-ups until she was a little over 2 years old. The doctor at the children’s hospital informed us that her heart could not close on its own and needed surgery to close the hole. The doctor contacted the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation to perform surgery to treat August’s heart disease.
The parents were very worried because she was their first daughter and she looked healthy and strong, unlike other children with heart disease. August underwent surgery on November 20, 2020. She stayed in the ICU for only 3 nights before being discharged from the heart surgery ward. She recovered very quickly. After 1 week, the doctor found that her heart was beating irregularly, so she had to undergo surgery to insert a pacemaker. The surgery was performed on November 28, 2020. The surgery went well. August stayed in the ICU for only 3 more nights. She recovered and became very strong very quickly. She was able to go home soon. It’s like the little one has received a new life and can go back to living like a normal child.
The parents and the little one feel grateful and would like to thank all the donors who have given their generosity, making the little one have a better life and health.
