Nong In is the only child of her parents, who are Burmese. Her father works as a tour company employee in Silom, earning 300 baht per day. Her mother is a housewife.
Nong In was born at Bangpakok 9 Hospital. At birth, she was diagnosed with heart disease, so the doctor sent her to Chulalongkorn Hospital for treatment since birth. She underwent surgery to insert a right artery when she was 10 days old, which cost around 30,000 baht. After the surgery, the doctor scheduled follow-up appointments until Nong In was 1 year and 5 months old. Her symptoms became more cyanotic and she had difficulty sucking milk. The doctor performed another surgery to insert an artificial artery on the left because the right artery that had been operated on was starting to block. This was Nong In’s second surgery.
The father said that each surgery costs tens of thousands of baht. He himself could not earn enough money to pay for his child’s medical expenses. However, the hospital allowed him to pay in installments. To this day, the expenses are still not paid off.
Nong In has been following up with the doctor until the doctor said it was time for another surgery. So, an appointment was made for a heart transplant on September 16, 2012, and the surgery was in progress until Nong In was 6 years old. The doctor made another appointment for a major surgery.
Before this surgery, Nong In had symptoms of fatigue easily, her fingernails and toenails were green, and she would get tired after walking a little bit. Nong In was in Grade 1 school. When she went to school, she could not play with her friends because she got tired easily.
Nong In became a patient under the care of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation. The doctor who treated Nong In felt sorry for her because this major surgery would cost more than any other time before. The doctor coordinated and sent her to the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation. Nong In underwent the surgery on January 6, 2014, through cooperation between the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation and Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital. Nong In’s parents did not have to pay any expenses. After the surgery, Nong In’s symptoms clearly improved. She was not tired, her fingernails and toenails were no longer green. However, Nong In still had to come for follow-up check-ups with the doctor as scheduled and would have to take blood thinning medication all the time, but she would be able to live like a normal child.
Her father was grateful that there was a kind donor who helped with Nong In’s expenses. I would like to thank you very much and promise to raise my child to be a good person and to come to the doctor’s appointments regularly.
