Nong Methicha is the daughter of Mom Somprathan and Dad Somchai Charoenphon. Her mother sells sweets in the market while her father runs a car repair shop in Ayutthaya. Mom said that when she was pregnant with Nong Methicha, she registered her pregnancy at Bang Pa-in Hospital in Ayutthaya Province and went for every check-up. The doctor said that everything was normal until she was born weighing 4,000 grams. She was healthy and strong. When she was 6 months old, Mom took her to get vaccinated. The doctor noticed that she was not breathing well and her body was cyanotic. The doctor recommended that she take her to see a specialist at the Children’s Hospital. Mom took her to the Children’s Hospital and found out that she had a congenital heart defect. However, the doctor informed her that she should wait until she weighed more and was older before having surgery and scheduled her for a follow-up every 3 months. Before the surgery, she got tired very easily, was out of breath, and could not walk at all because she got tired from doing the slightest thing. Whenever she went anywhere, Mom and Dad had to carry her all the time because she had to balance herself. She could not sit up by herself, could not walk, had small fingernails and toenails.
Until she was 2 years and 5 months old, the children’s hospital coordinated with the foundation to support children’s heart surgery and sent her to receive the first surgery at Rajavithi Hospital on February 21, 2004. She stayed in the hospital for about a week and was able to go home. After the surgery, her symptoms improved a lot. The difference was clearly visible. Her skin was whiter, her blood was rosy, she did not have cyanosis, she ate better, she could sit up and walk by herself.
After that, when she reached the age, she went to kindergarten like other children. When she started school and saw that her symptoms had improved, she stopped coming for checkups until when she was in Grade 3, she started to get tired easily again. Her parents brought her back to see Dr. Phiraphat, who had performed surgery on her at Rajavithi Hospital. After the doctor examined her symptoms, he informed her that her symptoms were not good and she would have to undergo another surgery. While waiting for the surgery, she had to see the doctor as scheduled every time, without fail. Until she had the second surgery at Rajavithi Hospital on May 9, 2011. After the surgery, she felt better, so she went home to rest. However, she still could not exercise much. If she had to walk up the stairs, she could only walk up 2 flights. If she walked up 3 flights, she would feel short of breath. However, she was still able to go to school at Bang Pa-in Rajanukroh School and still had to come for checkups and follow-ups with the doctor continuously until now.
Currently, Methicha is studying in Mathayom 3 at Bang Pa-in Rajanukroh School and plans to study in the accounting field so that she can find a job and earn an income to help ease the burden on her parents as soon as possible.
