Nong Mot is a big child with a husky voice like a boy. His father said that he works as a daily wage earner and works alone to support his family. Nong Mot’s mother is sick and disabled and cannot walk. If no one hires him to do anything, he has to boil vegetables to eat because he has no money to buy rice. The house he lives in belongs to someone else. It is an empty lot, so he built a hut there for about 11 years. He does not know when the owner will come to claim it back. Nong Mot is a good child who helps his parents with every job he can. He is considered a grateful child. He has to take care of his disabled mother. Before going to school, he has to prepare food for his mother. He does not have much food. He finds what he can to survive from day to day. When he saw her, he felt sorry for his daughter because Nong Mot already has a chronic disease, which is heart disease. When Nong Mot was 2 years old, she had a high fever and had seizures, so he took her to the district hospital. The doctor examined her and found that she had a heart defect. He therefore sent her to Chao Phraya Yommaraj Hospital, which is the provincial hospital in Suphan Buri. However, because the hospital did not have enough equipment, the doctor sent her to the children’s hospital instead. Nong Mot had a new physical examination, blood test, x-ray, and heart examination. The results came out that the doctor said that she had a leaky heart valve and needed surgery, and gave her an appointment for November 2001. During this time, she kept coming for checkups as scheduled. Until the last appointment, the hospital contacted Nong Mot to have surgery at Phyathai 2 Hospital on August 25, 2002. Her father said that when he knew that his daughter would have surgery, he was very happy. As for his mother, she was in tears. She was happy that her daughter would get better because she had no knowledge, could not write, and did not have the ability to cure her daughter. She had to borrow money from her neighbors to pay for the transportation to Bangkok. When she went back, she had to work to pay off her debts. During Nong Mot’s surgery, her relatives could not stay with her. Her father said that he and his wife were staying at a temple on the Thonburi side. Every day, the monk gave her money for transportation so that she could visit her daughter at the hospital.
