Yotsathorn Pensuk, “Nong Beckham”, is 5 years and 5 months old, the oldest of two siblings. He is in kindergarten 2. He was born normally like other children. His parents are straw mushroom farmers and are from Chachoengsao Province. It was discovered that he had a heart condition when he was 2 years old and had stomachaches. His father took him to see a doctor in Sanam Chai Khet District. The doctor suspected a heart condition and sent him to Chonburi Hospital for further treatment. The doctor diagnosed him with heart disease and required surgery. Initially, he was treated with medication and waited for surgery. While waiting for his turn, Beckham developed a complication, a brain abscess. Sanam Chai Khet Hospital, which is the district hospital, sent him to Chachoengsao Hospital for treatment. He was hospitalized for almost a month. Even though it is a central hospital, treating Beckham requires specialized doctors and equipment for children. Chachoengsao Hospital urgently sent him to the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health. Or locals know it as Children’s Hospital. Had to stay in Children’s Hospital for 3 months. After treatment, Beckham had a problem with his left hand, weak and unusable. Had to do physical therapy until it was normal. Children’s Hospital sent him to Rajavithi Hospital to receive surgery to cut blood vessels to increase blood to the right lung (RMBTS) at the age of 4. Before the surgery, he had cyanosis and very green nails. After the surgery, his symptoms improved and he wasn’t as cyanotic as before. Beckham had the second surgery at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital on August 28, 2007. After the surgery, his symptoms clearly improved. His father said that he could eat a lot and was more cheerful and brighter than usual, when he didn’t smile much. Today is the day the doctor let him go home. His father said that he didn’t think there would be a day when Beckham would recover from heart disease and be able to live like a normal child.
