Master Wanchalermchai Rak Sri or Nong Palm, currently 6 years old, is the son of Master Sompong Rak Sri, 45 years old, who works as a driver. His mother, Ms. Prapasri, 46 years old, works as a gardener in Saraburi province.
Ms. Prapasri said that when she was pregnant with Nong Palm, the doctor informed her that the placenta was low. When she was about 4 months pregnant, she went for an ultrasound and the doctor informed her that she had a cleft lip and palate. When she gave birth at Saraburi Hospital, she was fine, but she had to stay at the hospital for treatment and to have a prosthetic palate fitted. About 15 days after birth, the doctor found that she had a congenital heart disease. Saraburi Hospital therefore sent her to the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health or Children’s Hospital for further treatment. During this time, she received a removable prosthetic palate fitted so that she could drink milk because she had a heart disease and could not undergo surgery to treat the cleft lip and palate. That is, she had to be treated for her heart disease completely before being able to undergo surgery to treat other diseases. She has been receiving treatment for her heart disease and has been monitored for her symptoms.
Until the parents were contacted by the Heart Disease Foundation to treat her congenital heart defect by accepting her as a patient of the foundation and waiting for about 1 month, the foundation sent her to undergo surgery with the foundation to support heart surgery for children. The surgery was performed at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital in 2006 when she was about 3 years old.
Before the surgery, Palm was tired easily, could not drink milk, could only drink a little and became tired. Her fingernails and toenails were green. After the surgery, her symptoms improved. Her fingernails and toenails were a rosy color. She was not tired as much, drank more milk, and ran around and was playful like a normal child.
Currently, Palm has received treatment for her cleft lip and palate and is studying in kindergarten 2 at Ban Khlong Ha School, Saraburi Province. She is a cheerful and playful child like any other normal child. She likes to help her parents with their work. If they do not let her help, she will get angry and sulk. Palm dreams that when she grows up, she wants to be a good police officer to help suppress criminals.
