Nawin Suwan, 9 years old, currently studying in Grade 4 at Wat Charoentham School, Wihan Daeng District, Saraburi Province. Nawin is the eldest son of Karan Da Lak Suwan, 27 years old. His mother said that she had broken up with his father before he was born. However, during the pregnancy, she went to the doctor for prenatal check-ups as usual. Every time she went for check-ups, the doctor said that he was normal. Until he gave birth at Saraburi Hospital and gave birth naturally, he was completely normal, weighing 3,500 grams. However, 2 days after Nawin was born, she noticed that whenever he cried, he often had cyanosis. The doctor found that he had a cyanosis-type congenital heart disease, so he was sent for further treatment at the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health (Children’s Hospital). The doctors at the Children’s Hospital have been following up on his condition and have informed him that they must wait until he is older and weighs more before he can undergo surgery. During that time, Nawin would tire easily, could not exercise at all, and would have frequent headaches. Every time he was sick, he would be very sick and could not sleep for long, making it seem like his body did not get enough rest. Therefore, he is very thin and his body is not very big.
Normally, Nong Nawin lives at home in Saraburi with his grandparents, mother, and a younger sister who is a normal child. His grandparents work as general laborers and do not earn much income. As for his mother, she used to work in a factory in Saraburi Province and earned about 300 baht per day. However, she has now quit her job to take care of Nong Nawin while he undergoes heart surgery. Her mother hopes that Nong Nawin will recover and be as strong as other children so that she can go back to work to be able to take care of Nong Nawin and his younger sister.
