The Burmese boy Nanminton is the first child of his mother Waen and father Chai. They live in a rented house at 111/1, Village 3, Bang Ya Phraek Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province. His mother Waen said that she has been working at a canned fish factory in Mahachai Mueang Mai, Samut Sakhon Province for 2 years. She works from Monday to Saturday and earns about 1,600 baht per month. However, the work is very hard because she has to work from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next day. His father Chai works at a shoe factory and earns 6,000 baht per month. Out of concern for his child, he quit his job after being pregnant for 2 months because he had severe morning sickness. The work was quite heavy, requiring him to lift several kilograms of fish and cans.
His mother registered for prenatal care at Srivichai Hospital 5. During her pregnancy, she went to see the doctor as scheduled. The doctor did not inform her that her child had any abnormalities. When the child was born, he weighed 2,800 grams. He had cyanosis, was breathing heavily, and could not suckle on his own because his body would turn cyanosis when he sucked. He had to be fed through a tube and given oxygen all the time. Srivichai Hospital 5 then referred him to Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital. The cardiologist performed an echo and found that my son had severe cyanotic heart disease and needed emergency surgery. He needed to undergo two surgeries. The first surgery was to improve blood circulation and the second surgery would be when he was about 2-3 years old and weighed 12 kilograms or more. My mother said that at that time she did not want to undergo the surgery because she was afraid that her son would not recover. Most importantly, she did not have the money to treat her son. However, the doctor said that if she did not undergo the surgery, her son would have to work harder and die. As for the expenses, she did not have to pay and the foundation supporting pediatric heart surgery would be responsible for the expenses. My mother thought for a long time before deciding to have the surgery because she thought that if she did not undergo the surgery, her son would not survive. She underwent the surgery on August 12, 2009. After the surgery, her symptoms improved. When she cried, her body did not turn cyanotic and she was able to suckle on her own without being breastfed.
