Nong Keng is the third child of Father Rama and Mother Jit. Both are Burmese who have been living and working in a garment factory in Chachoengsao Province for about 7-8 years.
Nong Keng was born at Phutthasothon Hospital in Chachoengsao Province. Shortly after birth, he appeared cyanotic and had difficulty sucking milk. The doctor found that he had a congenital heart defect that required surgery to correct the defect. Nong Keng usually had 2-3 heart surgeries to correct this defect.
First, the doctor performed a blood vessel surgery to help blood flow to the heart and lungs to reduce high pulmonary pressure and help Nong Keng become cyanotic and less tired. After that, he was sent to receive surgery at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital on Sunday, May 12, 2013, with the assistance of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation, because Nong Keng is a Burmese who has no rights to any medical treatment.
After the surgery, Nong Keng stayed at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital for 1 night before being transferred back to Phutthasothon Hospital for further treatment. Nong Keng still has to come for a check-up as scheduled by the doctor to monitor his symptoms and schedule a second surgery if Nong Keng is healthy and his weight increases as the doctor sees fit.
Mother Jit would like to thank Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation for helping pay for this heart surgery because she and her husband work as daily wage earners and do not earn much. They would definitely not be able to find money to pay for their son’s surgery. When the foundation came to help, she was very happy because it gave Nong the opportunity and hope to recover and be able to live a life like other children.
