Chencho Wangdi is the youngest child with two older brothers. His father, Pema, and mother, Kinley Dema, are farmers living in Punakha Township, about 70 kilometers from the capital, Thimpu. Chencho Wangdi was diagnosed with congenital heart disease when he was three months old. Because he was not feeling well and had a fever, his mother took him to the hospital in Thimpu. The doctor diagnosed him with PDA, which requires surgery. Therefore, we contacted him at The 99 Bhutanese children’s heart surgery project to dedicate merit to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Thai – Bhutan Save Blue Heart Project) under the care of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation
Chencho Wangdi traveled to Thailand on January 13, 2017 with an appointment to undergo a heart surgery for congenital heart defects with extravasation (PDA Clipping) at the Heart Disease Center, Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital on Monday, January 16, 2017. However, when he was admitted to the hospital to prepare for the surgery, he developed a cold and a runny nose. The doctor therefore canceled the surgery because performing the surgery during this time would increase the risk of the surgery even more. The doctor then let her stay in the hospital for about a week and scheduled another surgery on Monday, January 23, 2017. The surgery went well and Chencho Wangdi was able to leave the hospital on Friday, January 27, 2017. On February 1, 2017, Chencho Wangdi went to Rajavithi Hospital to have a post-surgery heart check-up and a lung x-ray, which came out positive. Chencho Wangdi and his family then traveled back to Bhutan on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
